When you travel, no matter how long or short the trip, it is important you have carry on luggage. But not just any carry on luggage. You have to have the right carry on luggage. Not all carry on luggage is created equal. With this article I am going to share with you 5 features you should look for when purchasing new luggage.
Feature #1 – It Must Be The Right Size
There are certain size requirements you must follow if you want your carry on luggage to make it on the plane with you. If it doesn’t fit the size requirements you will need to have it checked which of course will cost you money. Generally speaking the standard size requirement is 22 inches by 14 inches by 9 inches. However, each airline is different and will have different requirements. Be sure to call ahead of time so you won’t have any problems.
Feature #2 – It Needs The Right Layout
The layout of your carry on luggage will affect how and what you are able to pack. There should be pockets where you can easily access things such as your passport, cell phone or boarding pass. You also want to make sure the main space is roomy enough to fit all of your belongings. Remember, this is a carry on luggage and is not to be used for all of your packing needs unless you are going on a very short trip. A great example of using the space effectively can be seen in the High Sierra Evolution carry-on.
Feature #3 – Good Accessories
When I say accessories I am referring to things such as the handles and zippers on the luggage. You want to make sure these things are good quality. Otherwise they will end up breaking or falling off. The handles need to be very easy to maneuver. They should also be easy to collapse when it is time to store the luggage in the overhead bin. Consider getting a cover for your luggage. This will help keep it clean and looking its absolute best.
Feature #4 – Make Sure It Is The Right Weight
Airlines are getting stricter and stricter when it comes to the weight of carry on luggage. If your luggage isn’t the right weight you will be charged an extra fee. So be sure your luggage is the right weight. To do this you will need to watch how you pack. Don’t stuff a bunch of unnecessary items in your luggage. Pack only what you need. Visit the airlines website and find out what their weight limits are before you start packing. This will help you determine what you should and shouldn’t pack.
Feature #5 – Expandability
These days carry on luggage is created to be expandable. Expandable luggage allows you to have more space and pack more things. Most expandable luggage will give you 3 inches of extra space. While you may not always need to use this extra space, it can sure come in handy when you are packing for long trips. So never purchase carry on luggage that isn’t expandable. It will only cost you a few extra dollars it is well worth the expense.
